Just as residents thought things couldn’t get worse in gridlocked Cranleigh, the travelling community has arrived to make matters worse.
The popular Thursday market will close this week while Waverley officials and its new head of legal services seek court injunctions to move the travelling folk on. The council has also provided extra bins.
Cranleigh’s Village Way car park serves the existing leisure centre, the Co-op store, and the health centre and is central to the town’s visitors.
Numerous road works prompted by utility companies and highway engineering have dogged the town for many months. Due to closures and diversions, traffic has backed up into all of Cranleigh’s approach roads.

Why didn’t these do as you likes use the official Dunsfold site. How much have they paid for parking in the carpark and how much parking revenue has Waverley lost as result. It’s a bloody disgrace that once again the people of the village have to pay for
The two Dunsfold sites are overflowing with new arrivals that do not in some cases have planning permission. This has gone to the High Court and judgement is awaited.
Yes, it sounds as though Dunsfold’s New Garden Village has a rival!
Why has the Government not got up off its backside and provided an efficacious means to prevent and prosecute this contempt for the law? It should begin with providing an efficacious means of rapid eviction and prosecution to claim full compensation and damages. Local Authorities’ taxpayers are not responsible for the government allowing this public disorder the Government and the Crown Prosecution service should be responsible for clearing up this mess.
The law should not require a costly and protracted court injunction to clear this rabble from the car park! Something else for Jeremy Hunt to get sorted!
