Public to have say on Waverley planning process

Residents are urged to have their say on the planning process of ‘Your Waverley.’

The authority has launched a consultation on its Statement of Community Involvement until 19 April.

Waverley

The consultation sets out how and when the council will consult over its planning policy documents, including the new Local Plan and what it should contain.

So, actually, it is more a consultation about a consultation.

Councillor Liz Townsend said:

Different perspectives will help the council “make informed decisions shaped by local communities”.

This is the first consultation on the council’s new online engagement platform, CommonPlace, but paper copies will be available at the council offices and public libraries from 8 March to 19 April.

  1. It’s a bit bloody late for that. The planners have dumped 2,000 houses in Cranleigh and 600 in Alford with no new supporting infrastructure. The damage has been done already, who are these morons trying to kid

    1. Waverley Planners repeatedly refused applications in Alfold on the grounds there was scare infrastructure, flooding and utility problems. However, successive Government Inspectors preferred to accept developer’s claims that there were ample shops, restaurants, schools and public transport. They also claimed it was an easy cycle ride to Cranleigh and Horsham along the A281. Ye Gods – more cyclists killed! One particular barrister claimed the Alfold village was close to five railway stations.Really!!

  2. feels a bit of a wasted excersice. Surely those that respond are engaged with the process anyway. What actually needs to happen is a clever attempt to engage the disenfranchised and those who wouldn’t usually engage with planning. As it is the vocal minority of people have more say than the majority.

It’s the same across the country. How often do you see people writing in support of something compared to objections. The inevitable result will be the NIMBY brigade being the steering group going loger heads with developers who have financial interest in promoting sites whilst the majority of people just get on with their daily routines.

  3. Thank you for advising that this public consultation is taking place, even Farnborough Airport provided notification by mail. This begs the question what are Waverley BC’s legal obligations for consultation? Hopefully it doesn’t exclude those without access to the internet, which can be argued discrimination. “Housing available to all that need it,” is a vision that unfortunately has neither foundation in fact nor achievability.
