A great idea from Margi – to fill the Lions coffers?

The Waverley Web takes its hats off to Cranleigh Lions and its Bonfire Boys.
You couldn’t find a happier bunch of guys than Cranleigh Lions – despite COVID-19 stamping out their bonfire night celebrations.
Lions clubs across the country – here, in Godalming and in the rest of the borough do a great job. They raise many hundreds of thousands of pounds to help the old, the vulnerable and the needy in their communities.
In Cranleigh, the club is the main protagonists for all the village’s major events – summer shows, carnivals and last but not least the annual bonfire procession to one of the finest blazes and firework displays in the country. Always a ‘roaring’ success.
BUT NOT THIS YEAR! AS COVID-19 strikes yet another blow – November 2020 will go down on the Lions’ Club calendar as a definite NO/NO!
But that didn’t stop those stalwart Lions and The Cranleigh Bonfire Boys getting all dolled up, despite having nowhere to go.
So in comes Cranleigh’s Facebook warrior Margi Plank with another of her good ideas?
She says:
‘Had a thought. When we have enjoyed our wonderful bonfire nights organised by the Lions Bonfire Boys in the past, as a family we usually spend quite a few £s on torches, fairground rides, drinks at the pub, pork rolls, etc., etc. so how about this year, donating even a small proportion of what you would normally spend, to the Lions in order they can continue with all the great work they do for the whole of our community.’
Now there’s a great idea Margi. How about us all digging deep into our pockets to help our local Lions Clubs?
Here’s how you can donate to Cranleigh and the eastern villages of Waverley.
