Below is a comment we received at the Waverley Web, and unlike “Your Waverley” Council when we are criticised “that we don’t do our homework” we take it seriously – very seriously.

Of course it’s in the Mott McDonald Report … or is it? Is it really quite as simple as POW/ POB – and our correspondent – would like us all to believe? Of course not! Why not? Because POW/ POB (Protect Our Waverley and Protect our Bramley) have been doing their homework … only problem is, they’ve been cheating … cheating the public that is! Oh and by the way, we think you’ll find that the report in question – which you, gleefully, claim is ‘the developers [sic] own report writers!!!’ – was, in fact, commissioned by Waverley Borough Council, not the developer! What was that about not doing your homework …?
We’re happy to confess that we’d missed the little bon mott [sic] referred to in Mott McDonald’s report but you can hardly blame us in the circumstances …
Firstly, because Waverley Web is not a single issue campaigner – unlike POW/POB. We try to keep abreast of multiple planning applications and other serious issues affecting the borough, because we care about the entire borough not just one tiny corner of it!
Secondly, some of these reports are a bit technical for us plebs here at Waverley Web. However, we asked one of our contributors who speaks planning-lingo to look at the report for us and you’re probably going to wish we hadn’t. In fact, you’re probably going to wish you hadn’t thrown down the gauntlet and accused us of cheating because this is what she’s found:
That POW and POB have pulled off a masterly cheat. Never mind Alastair Campbell and Tony Blair’s dodgy dossier. POW/ POB put those amateurs completely in the shade. In fact, their cheat is so sexed-up it puts E L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey to shame!
This is what the yellow peril signs littered across the borough claim…
DUNSFOLD NEW TOWN WILL ADD 41 MINS TO YOUR JOURNEY
As one who is, very familiar with POW/POB’s very parochial campaigns, you won’t be surprised to learn that the above traffic-stopping quote has been misappropriated and wilfully misused to cause maximum consternation and outrage to the average man on the street – or, in this case, commuters on the A281.
Those of a generous disposition would, perhaps, accuse POW/POB of being disingenuous. Those forced to run the gauntlet of the POB campaign on the A281 in recent days and have been late for work and school due to the Bramley Babes throwing themselves into the traffic with childish abandon, are probably less than thrilled by these tactics.

OK, we get it, telling people that developing Dunsfold Park New Town (together with all the existing traffic already coming up the A281) will add 41 minutes to their daily commute come 2031, is very scary but not nearly as scary and mendacious as telling them that Dunsfold Park in isolation will add 41 minutes to their journey!
But you know what’s really, really, really beneath contempt and mendacious?
Omitting to tell people that WITHOUT DUNSFOLD PARK and WITHOUT THE TRAFFIC MITIGATION MEASURES DUNSFOLD PARK HAS OFFERED TO PUT IN PLACE – and before we go any further let’s just repeat that to make sure you’ve got it, that you’ve really, really got it –
IF NO DEVELOPMENT AT ALL HAPPENS AT DUNSFOLD PARK AND NONE OF THE MITIGATION MEASURES DP ‘s DEVELOPMENT OFFERS TO PUT IN PLACE, THE DELAYS WILL STILL BE 25 MINUTES COMES 2031!
But here’s the real kick in the teeth, this is what POW/ POB are not telling anyone – because they don’t want anyone to know – that:
DUNSFOLD PARK WILL HAVE A POSITIVE AND BENEFICIAL EFFECT ON TRAFFIC AND THAT COMMUTERS WILL ACTUALLY BENEFIT FROM THE DEVELOPMENT.
POW/ POB don’t want people to know that IF DUNSFOLD PARK IS DEVELOPED AND THE TRAFFIC MITIGATION MEASURES THEY ARE PROPOSING ARE INTRODUCED THEN THAT 41 / 25 MINUTE ADDITION TO JOURNEY TIMES WILL BE REDUCED TO ONLY A 2 MINUTE DELAY!
Yeah, you read it here first. Those signs that POW/POD are so proud of should actually read:
DUNSFOLD NEW TOWN WILL ADD ONLY 2 MINS TO YOUR JOURNEY
Nothing traffic stopping about that is there? Or, how about,
STOP DUNSFOLD PARK NEW TOWN & THAT WILL: ADD 25 MINS TO YOUR JOURNEY
You have to hand it to POW/POB, they will STOP AT NOTHING to protect their little corner of Waverley. No claim is too deceitful, sly and underhand for them to stoop to. This sleight of hand and eye is a new low even by their standards.

I am anxious to be of help if I can be and willing to try to expose more of this corruption to the residents of Guildford. I can write to the press and start a movement against this corruption if WW can see a use for me.
