Cllr Nick Palmer, one of the most popular Waverley members and a former ~labour Minister, has resigned, prompting a By-Election.
A message from Nick to ‘Your Waverley.’
A “Message from Nick” was a popular missive from Cllr Palmer, particularly during the Covid epidemic when he would chart the ebb and flow of the virus.
The Binscombe & Charterhouse Ward residents valued him for regularly writing to them about council affairs. At the Waverley Web, we communicated those messages extensively and valued his incisive and informative views on council business and the reasons behind many of its decisions. Those were the days when ‘Your Waverley’ was more open and transparent.
The by-election, if contested, will take place on Tuesday 24 September 2024.
To be a candidate at the above election, the nomination pack containing the nomination paper and consent to nomination, including the extracts from legislation, must be delivered in person by appointment only to the Returning Officer, Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey GU7 1HR, between 10 am and 4 pm from Tuesday 20 August until today 4 pm on Wednesday 28 August 2024. Bank Holidays and weekends are excluded.

For formal submission, please telephone Electoral Services on 01483 523413 to make an appointment.

Many thanks for the friendly note! It’s important that Labour retains the seat, not least to maintain group status on the Council.
A sad loss of experience for Waverley BC best wishes for your future activities Nick. Although election of the most competent is often a desirable outcome regardless of political allegiance.
No great loss, never did anything, poor attendance at council meetings and only visible when an election was looming. Let’s hope we get somebody much better.
A very unkind and unwarranted comment. He was a very hard working councillor and member of the Executive. You are entitled to your opinion which we at the Waverley Web, who watch meetings, do not share.
I don’t share your opinions on other politicians which I often find to be unkind and unwarranted so we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Nick was a diligent Councillor and was not coloured by party dictats nor party bias. What a pity Nemo’s fellow members ignore the value of ‘community comes first’.
Nick Palmer put people before politics and was one of the few politicians who didn’t sit in that council chamber polishing his ego.
‘Nemo’s fellow members’ lol. This councillor was most definitely coloured by party bias and if he is an example of diligence and ‘community comes first’ then we really are in trouble Barely heard a peep out of him all the time he was councillor unless it was in the run up to election time of course and in my experience was full of party bias. By your description, I am not even convinced that we are talking about the same person.
