A Hoppa to the Hospital

Thanks to funding from Waverley Borough Council, the Luigi Francescon Trust, and Cranleigh Lions, a new pilot subsidised hospital and health facilities transport service for Cranleigh and surrounding villages is now available.

The hospital hoppa service, which will offer door-to-door transport to and from several health facilities (not just hospitals), is available from Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and can also be used for carers/companions or those visiting people in hospital.

The buses are accessible to people in wheelchairs and pushchairs and will be particularly useful for those who do not have a car or cannot drive themselves.

The health facilities the service visits include:

• Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford
• Milford Hospital

Mount Alvernia, Guildford
• St Luke’s, Guildford
• The Jarvis Centre, Guildford
• Cranleigh Village Hospital
• Any other health facility between Cranleigh and Guildford

The cost is £7.50 each way and £2.50 for carers or companions

Register with hoppa for free to start using the service by calling 01428 681701 or visit http://www.hoppa.org.uk/register

How does the service work

On the day of your appointment, the bus will arrive at your home, and the driver will meet you at your front door.
The driver will see you onto the bus and drop you off right outside the main entrance to the hospital or doctor’s surgery.

Who can use the service?

Hospital hoppa can be used by virtually anybody who lives in Cranleigh, Godalming, Haslemere, or the surrounding villages and does not have access to any other means of transport.

For example:

  • anybody who has any appointment and needs transport
  • a pregnant mum who needs to get to an antenatal appointment but who does not have use of a car during the day
  • somebody visiting a friend or relative
  • somebody who is temporarily unable to drive.

The buses are accessible to people in wheelchairs and people with pushchairs.

Councillors
Cllr Liz Townsend

Councillor Liz Townsend BEM, Waverley Borough Councillor for Cranleigh West, who has been working with Hoppa to bring the initiative to fruition, said:

“We are delighted to support this new initiative, which could provide a lifeline for many people in the area, especially at a time when hospital parking charges can be an added financial pressure.  It is a great example of organisations coming together to create something so vital for the community.“

  1. Good morning WW,
“The cost is £7.50 each way for carers or companions and £2.50 each way for carers or companions”
I think this needs some clarification

  2. Hopefully this will be more convenient than the Farnham Hoppa which even when substantial notice was provided Hoppa would need to deliver me to the hospital 2 hours early for the appointment because of “the School run obligations.” I was unable to drive because it was an Opthalmology appointment.
