‘Your Waverley’s’ FIRST Executive Listening Panel to hear residents views to help shape its response to the proposed fossil fuel exploration near Dunsfold has had a really positive uptake, according to the Liberal Democrats. Many residents and groups have indicated that they wish to attend to event at the Council Offices.
The Group said:
“We hope this to be first of many methods of engaging residents on matters of importance across the borough. We want to thank everyone for wanting to take part in this new administrations’ first (of which we hope will be many) borough-wide engagement events.”
The panel membership will be cross-party and is also combines local ward members with the relevant members of the executive.
This panel will include:
Cllr STEVE WILLIAMS, Panel Chair (Green Party), Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability.

Cllr ANDY MACLEOD, Panel Vice-Chair (Farnham Residents Party), Portfolio Holder for Planning
Cllr ANNA JAMES, Panel Member (Conservative), Ward member for Dunsfold.
Cllr RUTH REED, Panel Member (Liberal Democrats), Ward Member for Cranleigh East.
Cllr RICHARD SEABORNE, Panel Member (Conservative), Ward Member for Bramley, Busbridge and Hascombe.
Also in attendance (though not on the panel) will be the leader of the Council, Cllr JOHN WARD and Cllr PAUL FOLLOWS in his capacity as Deputy Leader of the Council and as portfolio holder for Comms and Engagement.
They will be present both to listen to the comments and to evaluate the exercise for future engagement events.
Waverley Borough Council Leader, Councillor John Ward said: “When we announced the council’s new Executive, we said we wanted to do things differently, to be open and transparent and most importantly, to listen to our residents.
“We understand that this is an extremely sensitive issue for the local community. We want to include the views of our residents and the potential impacts on local communities in our response to Surrey, alongside the more technical considerations and our assessment of the environmental impacts.
“This is a new approach and essentially we will be piloting the format, as well as using the results from it to help shape our consultation response. I would urge local people, community groups or other organisations to get in touch and come along on 23 July to share their views with us.”
Details on the event below and questions and comments as always welcome on here or at paul.follows@waverley.gov.uk (or email any of your borough councillors).

Ruth Reed? Is she related to Ken Reed? I can remember Ken, he was very good and did a lot to move the Neighbourhood plan forward if I remember correctly. It’s a shame he isn’t a Cranleigh Councillor. I’m sure Cllr Follows would have seen fit to put him on the Executive.
Cllr Ruth Reed is his wife and has been a councillor before also. Ken only very narrowly missed out on coming back to WBC himself (I think it was 14 votes or something silly would need to check!).
Naturally I speak to both of them about matters concerning Cranleigh (and used to before Ruth was back on the council)
I shall be attending, I am presuming that the date is for July 2020! Pleased to see the Green party involved.
