The party’s over – shall we call it a day?

Tory’s lose control of ‘Your Waverley.’

The residents of Waverley have burst the Tories pretty blue balloon – and many of them have flown away!

The once Tory stronghold is now a shadow of its former self. Polls reveal a Tory wipe-out in Farnham with all but one seat going to the Farnham Residents.’ The other to two Liberal Democrats…

Ye Gods, as Waverley’s head honcho returning officer – Tom Horwood – announced the election results here at The Edge Leisure Centre he had us all here at the Waverley Web swinging from our gossamer threads. The atmosphere was electric, as Tory grimaces turned to groans. Even a Touch of Frost began to melt into a puddle of pi**le as she realised her game was up in Farnham Moor Park, having lost her Surrey County Council seat last year to a Farnham Resident. Her running-mate Rashida Nasir was kicked out too by Farnham Residents. Michael Goodridge (Con) “Sleepy,” who probably dozed through it all, lives to sleep on another day. Mary Foryszewski in Cranleigh East will be accompanied by two Lib Dem colleagues when/if she becomes Mayor? Lib Dem husband of Ruth Reed – a former highly regarded borough councillor – failed narrowly to sit alongside his wife.

As we watched the Returning Officer burst the balloons of numerous Tory Tosser’s across the borough our arachnoid friends, looked more like glow-worms than spiders.   Before she left in a hurry Mayor Denise Le-Gal looked as though she was awaiting root canal treatment as The Potty One comforted her. Bet Farnham’s Gal wished she had kept her gob shut and never smirked about absent Tory Councillors being CHINOS – ‘Councillors Here In Name only.’

We bet Poor old Potty was gld she had parachuted into Frensham, Dockenfield & Tilford and do as she promised? ” I need to concentrate on being Leader.’

Screen Shot 2019-05-03 at 18.08.22.pngThe man of the match was undoubtedly Lib Dem Cllr Paul Follows who after only a year as a Cllr romped home with an outstanding vote of confidence and now has a colleague to serve the Godalming Central & Ockford Ward alongside him.

And, before they all start twittering, texting and posting that it’s all The Government’s fault let’s put the record straight.

Whilst almost to a man and woman, and all those in-between, whilst being totally pi**ed off with Theresa May and the Motley crew she would like to have in tow.  MOST OF THE BLAME LIES AT THE LOCAL TORIES’ DOOR.

Seats in Dunsfold and Shamley Green were uncontested – Two Tory’s returned  – Kevin Deanus and Chris Howard uncontested and still in her blue wrapper.

We will publish the full list of results and voting figures. Screen Shot 2019-05-03 at 22.30.18.png

  1. Good – I am glad some of the Good Conservatives are still in (and there are some good ones) A bit Miffed that some others have managed to keep their seats – But maybe their residents know something I don’t – But also glad that others have been given the boot – those that didn’t deserve to sit on the Council.

Really pleased that Farnham Residents & Lib Dems have made a good strong show and hopefully we will have a more Balanced Council now ?

Question WW. Now Ms la Gal is now Out – can she remain as Mayor? or is that a completely different Election?

I do feel there was a degree of dissatisfaction with Brexit but far more importantly – about what affects all of our lives, day to day and that is the Local Issues that need addressing in the Borough – I really hope that they all take note that you can only ride the gravy-train for so long before the peasants get angry (I include myself in the peasant genre)

Good luck all the new ones and watch your back some of the returning ones, I think this is a change for the best.

    1. Denise Le Gal’s term as Mayor would have come to an end next week anyway, regardless of her having lost her seat. She would preside over the Mayor-making ceremony held every May, in the usual way. However, whether her Deputy – Conservative Mary Foryszewski – will become the new Mayor, which is the normal way of things, remains to be seen.

Everything will change as of Tuesday. But we will be watching, informing, and if necessary, criticising in exactly the same way we have in the past.

  2. Of course you shouldn’t stop. Should hold whatever administration comes out of yesterday to account in just the same way. Will keep everyone honest. Plus this is going to be a both – different – and I think WW has played a role in raising awareness of everything the council does and how it works – personally I would love to see that continue.

    1. How refreshing to hear the above. The WW had done its best to shine a light into the darkest corners of ‘Your Waverley.” We intend to do the same in the future. We are sure you woud not expect anything less.

P.S Congratulations on the success of you and your colleagues in the town Council elections – well deserved.

We look forward to the return of the Planning Committee. We only wish we could witness its return – any chance of a webcast?

We believe all town and parish councils should be webcast. If, they were, perhaps more people would take an interest in local decision-making. How about Godalming becoming the first?

  3. Hi All

Well! Never have I seen so many shell-shocked TT’s in one place. They expected to lose Farnham but I don’t think that they were ready for the rest, there was much muttering about May and Brexit but it never occurred to them that the size of their loss was down to them being shite at the job and soooo arrogant, even I, a much derided kipper was hard on the heels of their candidates in Milford.

Pat Frost, Mike Hodge, Denise LeGal, Chris Storey, Wyatt Ramsdale, Nick Williams, Ross Welland, Ged Hall, Stewart Stennett, Jim Edwards, Carol King and Tom Martin all GONE

Peter Martin only just hung in, Isherwood was pulled from the hat and Julia Potts scraped in but was 2nd to her Tory partner. Definitely no red wine flowing.

Much spluttering about 2 Labour successes, Labour in Waverley!!!

It was indeed a sight to behold

    1. Wow! thank you Rosalyn, what a roll call. We cannot help wondering what they will all do in their spare time.

As we too watched their faces at the count it was obvious, they just couldn’t believe this day would ever come. Why the shock though? Perhaps they should have read the Waverley Web, we read their horoscopes for them long ago.

We have so many posts featuring these people in the past. However, we are now looking forward and not back.

Well done Rosaleen for heling your Labour colleague on the electoral trail. That shows such a generous spirit. however, after all your hard work on “Don’t mention The raud,” along with your late husband, you deserved to have your day in the council chamber. Perhaps your day will come? In the meantime – keep watching them.

  4. It’s the Labour successes that give the lie to any attempt to explain this rout as being down to Brexit. If we are to believe what the national media tell us then both Conservatives and Labour lost out as a consequence of the Brexit debacle. But in Godalming we have the first Labour Councillors since 2003 and that’s bucking a trend. There’s very local issues at the heart of this voting; anger at the complacency of the local Conservatives and at the contempt shown for residents.

    1. I couldn’t agree more -Wheat and Chaff spring to mind and who knows maybe more to follow??

    2. Here at the WW we wholeheartedly agree. It is heartening to see the Labour successes. Let us hope they can follow in the immortal footsteps of two fine Labour councillors Harold and Elsie Denningberg – who put peopl before politics. Their love of the borough and the town they served was legendary.

It is the complacency and arrogance of the Tories that has brought about this result. They have shown their contemp for the public, never more so than when Carole Cockburn and `Peter Isherwood (he who was returned on the flip of a ballot paper) when they insulted villagers in the east after forgettig to turn off their microphones.

Both, sadly, have been returned! But in some ways we are quite glad, because they will be forced to witness, the change that will come. Perhaps they will even learn how to treat the public with respect, rather than with contempt.

  5. I think you will find it was Alfold and Shamley Green that returned Waverley Councillors uncontested. There was an election for the Waverley Seats in the Chiddingfold and Dunsfold Ward albeit the Dunsfold Parish Election was uncontested.

  6. We thought we had said that – Kevin Deanus and Chris Howard. But perhaps we didn’t seems like a very long week at the WW. Happy holidays.

  7. I for one am glad Kevin is back – he is a good man and cares so much about Alfold and that is what matters – Not the political infighting. I am also really pleased that Liz Townsend and Mary F are back in. I have had my run-ins online with Mary – But in her heart she cares about Cranleigh and she has fought long and hard for her residents.

So onwards and upwards and hopefully with a more balanced Council we will see a more balanced approach towards Local Government.

  8. So even I am not upset Kevin Deanus, Liz Townsend and Richard Seaborne are back. Good councillors are good councillors.

    1. Here, here. Nobody wants to throw the all the good Tory babes out with the swampy bath water.

  9. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, ever Borough needs a “Paul Follows” to stand up for what is right.
If only the Lib Dem’s and Labour had put a candidate forward in Alfold !!!!!
I think it’s an absolute disgrace that these parties want us to vote for them in a general election but can’t be bothered to contest a Borough election.
Even if Kevin Deanus still kept his seat at least we would of had a choice of who to vote for.
But as we have seen, no seat is a safe seat !!!
