Could the provision of ‘Your Waverley’s gipsy sites be heading for Alfold?

Below  is a snapshot from a report that was considered by The Council’s Environment Overview & Scrutiny Committee this week.

When is someone within Waverley Towers going to describe that poor little village on the Surrey /Sussex border as; Screen Shot 2017-05-23 at 18.17.46.png

Although a possible site proposed in the Part 11 of Waverley’s Daft Local Plan describes the site as land off Horsham Road, Awfold – it is  close to the Stovolds Hill site off  Dunsfold Road.  Nearby is  the Lydia Park Gipsy Site – now occupied by over 50 settled families and adjacent to Hill Copse and New Acres, which is a transit site – also home to another  75 plus gipsy families. The majority of families, we understand, are Romany Gipsies – but in recent years – some Irish Travellers have joined the settled community.

  1. Bet no councillor’s live near that site, should they not ask the local community and who owns the land?

  2. Perhaps the Protect Our Waverley group will take a little time off from protecting Their Little corner of Waverley i.e. stopping development at Dunsfold airfield – and start protecting the countryside which could be invaded shortly by ‘travelling showmen.’ But don’t hold your breath, because breath is so good for you!
