Developers prepare to tear another chunk out of Alfold.

But villagers will have nothing to fear – because its new MP Jeremy Hunt is on their case!

Even though over 400 homes have been approved by his Government’s planning Inspectors and only a handful by Waverley planners.

The Hon. Jeremy is horrified at the explosion of development in the small village, which is now in his new Godalming & Ash constituency.
He recently met with Waverley borough Councillor Kevin Deanus and the head honchos of the Parish Council to discuss Alfold’s dilemma.
The Waverley Web cannot help but wonder if Mr Hunt told the little cabal that he and his former MP buddy Anne Milton delayed the building out of the Dunsfold Garden Village for years—resulting in the present impasse.
The duo was aided and abetted by Chris Britten, the current chairman of Alfold’s Planning Committee and a senior member of (POW)  Protect Our Waverley—an organisation that had nothing to do with stopping development in Waverley but everything to do with stopping Dunsfold Village—on the largest brownfield site in the borough!
Mr Hunt feared it would provoke a rat race of traffic past his Hascombe Home, and Mr Britton’s multi-million pound home is within spitting distance of the proposed 2,800-home village! He recently said that he lived in fear of the development of Dunsfold Aerodrome development going ahead.

So now the owner of Alfold Farm—who has been developing by stealth for a decade—wants to build nine detached homes at Alfold Farm off Loxwood Road. at Cyprus Grove – where never a Cyprus grew!
He argues that Waverley cannot demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, and the borough has a significant shortfall of homes.
So why not build them in Alfold, where there is a miserable bus service, no shops, schools, or amenities, and the recreation ground was closed recently due to sewage contamination?
The applicant claims the proposal would benefit the housing supply, housing mix, the area’s visual amenities and biodiversity without harming other policy considerations, and therefore hopes that planning permission is granted.
You can view the full proposal here.

  1. BE FAIR Waverley spider. Jeremy Hunt did not take part in the opposition in the later years. I opposed Dunsfold Park “Garden village” and was annoyed that he did not. Jeremy Hunt does probably fear the traffic from a development at Dunsfold Park down lanes near him which totally unsuitable to take much traffic. Perhaps that was why he did not take part in the opposition after he moved.

      1. WW I don’t give a toss if JH supported or otherwise – we have a MAJOR Problem in Alfold and unless SOMEONE (and I don’t care WHO) Speaks up for us we will be shafted by the rest of Waverley and the Planning Inspectors – so for goodness sakes can we just all try to do SOMETHING to stop this ridiculous Mess HERE? It has gone beyond a joke.

I hear Nothing from WBC, the Leader or others. I am sick to the teeth of Platitudes – it is time something changed so that NO MORE DEVELOPMENT can happen here – They are making a mockery of what was a Well thought out and Supported Neighbourhood Plan that cost a lot of time & money to get through and if it is continuously ignored – What the Hell is the Point of them?

I can’t believe I have to keep spewing out this Diatribe – when it is Obvious No-one is listening
I am ending now before I say something I regret
        Best

      2. FACT He stayed neutral and did not oppose the appeals and to the Minister after he moved to his new home nearby nor did he support POW in their campaign against the development. But yes the initial applications made years ago for Dunsfold Park were opposed by Jeremy Hunt.
FACT The applications for many new homes in Alfold were not caused by the Dunsfold Park applications or by Jeremy Hunt but were caused (as Denise Woodwood states) by the lack of any timetable for any houses actually being at Dunsfold park. We still don’t know the plans.

  2. I too was against the Dunsfold Park development. Not because we didn’t want housing here – But because of the lack of Infrastructure in the area and whilst DP was offering some mitigation – much of it was not coming until hundreds of homes had been built out and even those would not improve the roads around this area apart from a few minor Junction improvements. We all know how bad travelling to Guildford was when all the Sh1t hit the fan in Bramley.
Once it was approved… Did it stop all the other developers pitching into Alfold? Of course it didn’t they all Piggy-backed off the DP Development saying that the Infrastructure would all be provided by DP and therefore they didn’t need to do anything other than fill the Coffers of SCC with CIL Payments.

We have another Appeal hearing next week regarding another 11 Homes adjacent to Brockhurst Farm which would take that little Packet of Housing up to 41 Homes…. soon to be joining up with Dunsfold Park!!

As you will be aware Thakeham homes are still in discussion with Planning Officers for another 350 Homes Couldn’t afford to build out the first 99 homes so they sold those on for Affordable Housing no doubt opening the way for the 350 odd to all be Market homes…Why are they not Building out on Dunsfold Park? I think we all know the answer to that.

Alfold Farm have been putting in applications on a regular basis for the last 10 years or more.. I am not even sure just how many there are there now…..You just have to look at all the FOR SALE signs up outside the little Business Park to see how many houses there are there that are simply not selling because we have glut of them. This is all Housing in the Wrong place.

Even Stretch & Fired has closed its doors on the Village. The Barn Restaurant has been closed for a year & is soon to be 7 New homes with another application in for an additional House in the Car Park at the front…
Someone has to see that our Village has taken Enough – and if having our Adopted Neighbourhood Plan can’t stop any more, then we need all the help we can get from Jeremy Hunt.
