Finally, after many months of not being seen or heard of Cllr Richard Cole has resigned as a Waverley Borough Councillor.

The Liberal Democrat Cranleigh East representative moved away from the town earlier this year to a new home in Devon.  He was a member of Cranleigh Parish Council and chairman of the Eastern Planning Committee for several years.

Now Phillip Townsend the husband of Waverley, and Surrey County Councillor Liz Townsend, a former Insurance Executive, will be going head to head for the Waverley East ward seat with retired schoolteacher and Cranleigh parish councillor Rosemary Burbridge.

The announcement was made yesterday.

Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Tuesday 21 September 2021.  Applications can be made online at: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

New applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of existing proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5 pm on Wednesday 22 September 2021.

New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5 pm on Wednesday, 29 September 2021.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Council Offices, The Burys, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1HR by 5 pm on Thursday 7 October 2021.  The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5 pm on Wednesday 29 September 2021.  To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5 pm on Wednesday, 29th September 2021

  1. Go Rosemary – you get my vote. You are a wonderful human! Fingers crossed you win. Two Townsends at Borough sounds like a repeat of the Ellis and Stennett duos. Yuck.

  2. She might be a wonderful human to you, but we should be voting on effectiveness as a councillor. Her tenure at Cranleigh Parish Council, has been marked by self-promotion, obstruction, back-stabbing and weirdness. She also supported Ellis and the Stennett duos in their voting, hardly a recommendation.

    1. What a nasty comment Billy. I’m sure Mr Townsend is a pleasant guy but I don’t know what he has done in the Community. His wife has done a lot of good although I wish she has stayed Independent. Rosemary has worked extensively helping disadvantaged children. I’m not a fan of husband and wife teams. I thought we were done with that nonsense in Cranleigh with the departure of the Stennetts and one Ellis. Obviously not.
