‘Your Fund Surrey’ Community Involvement Scheme – has more ways to make a difference in your community.
Did you know Surrey County Council funding is still available for small and large community projects?
Whether you:
- Want to build a new community space
- Refurbish a community hall
- Want new playing fields or need new sports equipment
- Or want to develop your green spaces, plant trees, or create ponds
Your Fund Surrey (YFS) has funding for Large Community Projects and Small Community Projects.
This means there are now even more ways to Make It Happen in your local areas.
Almost £1m is funding a new MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) at Parkmead School in Cranleigh, and large sums are allocated to various projects in Godalming and Farnham. These include the Wonersh Bowling Club and the Link Community Hub in Haslemere. A full Interactive Map shows the beneficiaries on the link at the bottom of this post.
Surrey’s Communities Environment and Highways Select Committee heard the total fund currently available is £43 million (Large Community Projects), with £20.5 million already spent, £1 million allocated to Small Community Projects, and £14 million left in the pipeline.
Making a Difference
Your Fund Surrey has made a difference in delivering a wide range of community projects, particularly in designated key neighbourhoods, and councillors recently heard how this had contributed to supporting the most vulnerable in society and ensuring no one is left behind;
The successful introduction of the small community projects fund ensures all communities throughout Surrey benefit from YFS investment and supports the efforts of officers to target members and areas that have yet to take up the fund or have used a lower proportion of funding;
The committee resolved to. Focus on communicating the impacts and benefits of the YFS scheme so that residents understand the difference the Council and Councillors make in investing in their communities;
It welcomed the work done to provide a county-wide measure of social value. It has also recommended backing the Cabinet Member responsible for the fund to review the process and crossover between the large and small project funds and any flexibility for contributing from the small fund to a larger project.

With the County’s financial position continuing to deteriorate with an existing overspend in the current financial year of £16.7m, you have to wonder how much longer this fund will continue. Especially as I understand the County has to borrow the money to fund it.
But even if it stops tomorrow, it has for sure made a huge difference to many worthwhile causes in local communities. It does what is says on the tin and has been diligently run by Surrey Officers (Bravo for once!)
