The Retirement homes specialist is presently busy flogging circa £700,000 – yes, really, you older folks, £700,000 retirement flats that you cannot swing a bat in! We’re using the bat word because wouldn’t want to swing our cat!
The former popular Manns Department Store has morphed into a couple of tiny shops, one of which is already a dress shop moved from the Smithbrook Kilns. Ads in the windows also say a cafe is’ coming soon.’ Not that soon, as it appears. Behind Victoria Road are 38 retirement flats with a management charge, bills, and council tax.
Many of the 38 one—and two-bedroom apartments have 14 parking spaces. Will World War 3 break out when the elderly, on a “first come, first served basis,” can’t park their cars? Apparently, the sales assistant told our informant that the elderly don’t want or need cars. Tell our Gran that! You could prize her diamond off her finger more quickly than removing her car.
Is that the Rowleys Day Centre car park we see becoming the overflow? Or will the Parsonage Road residents become the new occupants’ parking zone?
Many of the apartments look out onto Cranleigh C of E Primary Upper School playing fields on which Surrey County Council has just lodged a planning application.
Sadly, nobody has told Chi Wai Wong on Surrey’s Planning Technical Support Team that Mr Ellwood departed Waverley two years back.
‘Your Waverley’s head planning honcho going, going…
