The Waverley administration is determined to deliver good-quality, environmentally sustainable social housing.
Since being elected, the Rainbow Administration has worked towards providing its own social housing—properties that are ultimately cheaper for residents to live in—while refurbishing its council housing stock.
Homes built by local authorities are cheaper, as most developer-led developments are built for profit, unlike local authorities who build for the public good.
Waverley leapt at the chance when the opportunity to build on land in its ownership came up. Now, it wants the people of Elstead to back its plans to build homes in Springfield Elstead. But the council wants to get it right, so it wants to engage with residents, allow them to ask questions and take a closer look at the plans so the development is right for the village.
Said a council spokesman:
That means when we can do it ourselves like this, we must try to do it right. That means going the extra mile to build quality and sustainability.
