East Hampshire District Council has proposed an increase of 58% to remove residents’ garden waste. WOW! In Waverley, residents will now be asked to pay £82.50 per year, a rise of 4.6% from the previous year’s £78.50
Most other East Hants council charges there have also gone up by 10%, with its finance portfolio holder, Cllr Charlie Louisson, saying,
“It is difficult times for everyone.”
However, Waverley’s charges have mainly gone up in line with inflation of 4.5%, though council rents are higher.
Garden waste is a means of avoiding toxic polluting garden bonfires, why not charge for the extra blue bin instead? Global warming is a serious matter garden waste should be charged to cover the cost not as a profit centre. Parking charges are reasonable, the problem is finding a space.
Yes, we hear more complaints about insufficient car parking spaces in certain areas than the actual cost.
Indeed – what the Tories don’t understand is that supply and demand dictate parking charges. If the charges are too low then the car park is routinely full and people turn away never to return.
