When the mucky brown stuff hit Alfold’s fan in recent weeks, the media and MPs descended on the village in their droves. The BBC sent reporters to chart the progress of the affluent’s effluent covering the sports pitches.
It isn’t the first time this has occurred. But it is the first time it has attracted so much attention.
Today, even The Chancellor of the Exchequer has pencilled in a phone call to the parish council! Presumably to tell them that he is doing everything in his power – and he has a lot of it – that he will sort out Thames Water and its horrid habit of dumping their deposits on other people’s lawns.
But of course, he has high hopes of gaining Alfold as part of his new Godalming & Ash constituency. Perhaps when he rings in, he will also tell the parish council that thanks to his intervention, it was he who called the Dunsfold Aerodrome application to The Secretary of State all those years ago. This is why they have been deluged with development and the effluent that comes with it.
So flushed with attention from high places, villagers have just sent us the graphic below. Showing the new monument on Alfold Crossways just opposite the Rec at Poo Corner.

Let’s be honest WW – I think the rest of Waverley probably think this is the most appropriate “statue/obelix” to have as you drive into our Village. Do any of our WBC Councillors outside of this area give a Toss about what is happening here in the East – Or are they all just glad it isn’t happening in their neck of the woods.
I hardly expect MP Hunt to gain any traction when he meets with the APC today – it will all be “promises” in the run up to the Election – Just as MP Richardson gave us back in 2022… Nothing Happened !
The rest of the borough might not care, and the MPs will be all over the place pre-election and pretend to care, but we here at the WW do care – and we will bang on about the Alfold situation, until we drop off our web!

Just listening to Michael Gove this morning on Various programs He kept saying that they WILL Build in the Cities where accommodation is most needed, where there is existing infrastructure and job opportunities… But we all know how much Developers don’t like to build on Brown Field land due to the associated Clean-Up costs – it is far cheaper for them to build on Green Fields that are uncontaminated with anything other than cow poo! and whilst there are many cities all over the country that have Brownfield Land … no-one seems to be terribly enthusiastic about them – Maybe we need some regulations that state that before Developers get their Grubby Mitts on GREEN FIELDS they HAVE TO Development Brown Fields first……..
I am afraid the Tories are in Bed with the Rich Developers who donate to their Coffers, some even are Consultants!! so we will continue to see Large Developments in Unsustainable Villages like ours that have no Statutory Protections
