The bin strike in Waverley is ‘almost’ over before it began.

Bin strike coming to ‘Your Waverley?’

Following an improved pay offer to its staff from refuse contractor Biffa, a further ballot was held by the GMB yesterday.

Whilst the offer was rejected, most of Waverley’s staff elected to continue working in the spirit of goodwill; Waverley has said it is grateful that staff has decided not to disrupt services whilst continuing to negotiate on terms with their employer.
However, Some staff have chosen to withdraw their labour, leading to partial disruption of services.

.

The council says it expects this to be:
Garden Waste – Haslemere and Hindhead
Recycling – Cranleigh and Chiddingfold
Refuse – parts of Farnham

The council urges residents to present all their scheduled bins for collection, so refuse, food waste, recycling and garden waste as usual (per your schedule).
There are anticipated delays in collection, and Biffa is unlikely to complete all its usual work. It will attempt the recovery of unattended streets in the afternoons and throughout the week. So want everyone to leave bins out until then.
Biffa doesn’t anticipate being able to get to missed collections today, as all resources available will be directed at service recovery for those streets not attended to at the usual time.

Please check the council’s website for updates.
