Let’s all dump on poor old Witley?

NOW A RAT RUN FOR THE CRAP RUN?

Darling, can you programme the SatNav to the tip?

The powers that be at  County Towers have more or less decided that recycling centres here in Farnham and Cranleigh will close. Ye, ye, we all know there’s a public consultation exercise going on so that they can say they have ticked all the boxes by asking US what THEY want!

And here’s WHY?  Surrey’s head honcho – Tim Oliver told the Waverley Partnership Committee the county council’s finances were in heavy duty dog doo – or words to that effect. It needed to save zillions and flog off County Towers to make ends meet!  The man the WW tipped to become Surrey County Council’s new Leader was first past the post.

They claim – and this is straight from the binman’s mouth – that 55,000 fewer tonnes of waste was collected at the Witley centre last year – because all us goody-goodies are being much more sensible about the stuff we throw away. The Cranleigh tip is the least used and Farnham’s Recycling Centre is to be dumped – literally, because, according to refuse experts it is no longer fit for purpose, is not big enough and the staff there are – “not very engaging. He also Confirmed ” there won’t be a new one provided elsewhere in the present financial climate!’

Wouldn’t more houses increase Farnham’s needs – asked Councillor Carole Cockburn? And the thousands of new homes under construction in Cranleigh, asked Councillors’ Townsend & Povey? What about increased incidents of flying tipping, asked Bramley’s, Councillor Seaborne?

“Fly-tipping in the county of Surrey has decreased said the expert.”

Cranleigh is closing because “it doesn’t generate enough recycling rubbish.”

But it was Surrey County and Waverley Councillor (Godalming Holloway) Peter Martin that turned the wheelie bin on its head when he exclaimed –Screen Shot 2019-01-21 at 14.17.31.png

“But even more recycling trips to Witley by residents of Farnham and Cranleigh is certainly going to cause very harmful congestion in my area.”

Because Farnham people will have to travel via Godalming or Elstead.   Cranleigh people will either have to travel on a one-way, no passing places across Hascombe Hills at Loxhill named “The Rat Run” by Protect Our Waverley – where everyone can give a toot to Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt or do a crap run through – yes – you guessed – Godawfulming.

So there you have it, folks- we are not generating enough recycling – which is why the people of Farnham and Cranleigh may have to go to Witley.

In other words: It’s our own bloody fault for doing what we are told by ‘Your Waverley and Your Surrey Councils.

Screen Shot 2019-01-19 at 10.50.06.png Surrey County Council decided this morning after holding its public consultation to close 31 children’s centres across the county including those in Waverley. These include the thriving centres in Haslemere, Farnham and in Cranleigh.

  1. WW – Do you know what really gets my goat? I watched the bally meeting about the recycling centres and the Rubbish that was spewed forth was enough to make me throw my Mouse across the room.

THEY LIE!! SCC say there has not be an increase in the amount of fly tipping…. What they actually mean is that they have not been Collecting it. We have one Dump just outside of Alfold on the A281 towards Guildford- Which when I can get to it without being run over I will take a flipping picture and show them the mess that is growing weekly.

We in the East have the Cranleigh Tip open ONLY on Sat/Sun/Mon. I have a pile of Large Cardboard boxes to recycle (too big for our Bin) and due to family visiting over the Weekend unable to go then, nor on Monday, at this rate they will be so sodden I will probably squish them up and put them in the Black bin!

I have no intention of going to Witley – it is ridiculous to expect us to make a 20mile round trip to dispose of waste, not only is that Environmentally Bad – But it costs time and Money to do it.

As I was driving to London this morning – I saw a man putting about 10-15 Very Large Flat-pack boxes next to his recycling bin near Bramley. It will be interesting to see if the Recycling Bin men take it… I bet they don’t as I tried that once and the left them.

If they do decide to Close the Cranleigh RC – it will be interesting to see how quickly a Planning Application is posted for New Houses on the Site.

  2. Yes, lets have even more homes here on the Farnham site and on the Cranleigh site – beause that’s what we need lots and lots more houses and loads more rubbish – then will they give us our tips back? No way – this is just another way of trousering money.

First it was old people’s homes all over the county putting up the Closed signs, and then up goes the For Sale signs and in go the planning applications. No doubt some clever numpty at County Towers will soon decide to send the olds to the Witley tip! After all they keep on moaning about the ageing population.

  3. If Surrey CC can’t afford recycling site then council taxpayers can’t afford to pay a 26% contribution for Surrey local authority pensions.

    1. Oh dear – you may just have set off World War 3!

They would prefer to see us all wading in detritus, our schools closed – 31 Childrens’ Centres were closed by the county council to-day in Surrey – including Waverley’s – our elderly hung on a line to dry – or die – and the roads crumble into dust – before they will give up their final salary pensions.

  4. Whilst WW provides a much needed and often interesting counterpoint to the usual Council generates bullshit we’re dealt, I was wondering whether anyone knew why Farnham and Cranleigh are referred to as Garnham and Cranleigh, and why you refer to Godalming as Godawfulming. A minor point I know but it makes you sound a little bit pissy and territorial, a trait I’m sure you would be the first to point out in councillors. Not a major problem and please keep up the good work or I may have to move to Fartham.

  5. Apologies Giles if we had a slip of the finger with Farnham – but Godawfulming is a soliloquy adopted by the people of Godalming themselves. Certainly not us – we let Waverley councillors trash our towns and villages, we do everythig we can to support them.

However, we quite like the place, because it is home to Waverley Towers. However, you will be welcome here in Fartham any time – but do mind the traffic – and the air quality is bad – really bad!!
