Supply of Council Agendas/committee papers UP, event charges UP– Care Line charges for the vulnerable elderly – UP, grant to parish and town councils – down, and there’s more much more…In addition: Surrey County Council tax increase UP 5% – Business Rates going…going…going… yes, you guessed, UP and UP!
After watching “Your Waverley” sign off the Annual Budget at the Full Council Meeting this week – we almost lost the will to live… in … “Your Waverley”… however we need
to hang around from our tangled web awhile… yet?
In a spin of a cobweb this is how things went:
Councillors lined up, yes one after another in a long queue to congratulated themselves and everyone else, other than of course the council cat, for their huge achievement.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OFFICERS FOR PROVIDING A BALANCED BUDGET. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TORY EXECUTIVE FOR BRINGING FORWARD A BALANCED BUDGET; CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STAFF FOR WORKING TOWARDS A BALANCED BUDGET, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LEADER FOR LEADING THE COUNCIL TOWARDS A BALANCED BUDGET.CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ‘TORY’ COUNCILLORS FOR SUPPORTING A BALANCED BUDGET.
AND MULTIPLE ACCUSATIONS AND COMMISSERATIONS :
HURLED IN QUICK SUCCESSION AGAINST THE TORY GOVERNMENT FOR FORCING TORY CONTROLLED WAVERLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL TO MAKE SAVAGE CUTS TO ITS HOUSING PROGRAMME, ITS GREEN WASTE COLLECTION, FORCING IT TO SHOVE UP CAR PARKING AND OTHER COUNCIL CHARGES.
AND WHO ELSE DID THEY BLAME?
THE OPPOSITION – AND IN PARTICULAR COUNCILLOR JERRY HYMAN, FARNHAM RESIDENTS GROUP (who has been in post for a couple of months) and has been given a verbal smack about the head ever since he dared to sit on his hard earned hot seat…
… for not coming up with more imaginative ways of saving money… Really Councillor Hyman – you must try harder!!
Well here’s a few SAVINGS the Waverley Web came up with:
- Cut the final salary pension scheme
- Reduce the – number of councillors.
- reduce attendance and special responsibility allowances
- pay annual allowance based on attendance and representation on outside bodies.
- explore a full merger with other councils – partivularly East Surrey and West SsussecCounty Councils.
- and… last but not least – let poor old “Wen-am I – Leaving…leave!
Angry and frustrated Haslemere councillors are calling for thei removal of their town from Waverley “because we get nothing from WBC and are having our car parking charges hiked again – making them more expensive than some Guildford car parks!” It’s residents want to move into East Hampshire, which isn’t increasing its council tax or over into West Sussex – where in most cases car parking is free, gratis and for nothing and where its Age UK, and old people’s services, are flourishing!
Where have we heard that before … didn’t Farnham petition Her Majesty The Queen to seek permission to be surgically removed from the borough of Waverley? Embarassing or what for “Our Jeremy” the Secretary of State for health!
I have only managed to watch about 20mins of the 2hrs 30mins, so far Julia Potts has listed her “achievements” but forgot to mention closing meals on wheels and Waverley Age UK – must have slipped her mind. She says that Brightwells is at last taking shape and that the residents were looking forward to its completion, what planet is she on?
John Ward has pointed out that the increase in revenue from Council Tax is matched by the increase in staff salaries thus wiping out any benefit, how about the officers, particularly the senior ones do like the rest of us and manage without a rise?
When I get to force myself to watch the rest of the meeting I may have further things to say

Up to 37th minute and the Colonial is on her feet congratulating Graeme Clark and Paul Welland? I know she does not attend many meetings but surely she can get the Executive Directors name right!! Why are people congratulating Clark, he of the assurance that everything is ok on his watch, unless you want to defraud us?
50mins and Frosty knickers congratulates the wonderful staff and harangues the Opposition for not coming up with any ideas, that surely is the job of the ruling party? What wonderful staff, with a few exceptions they are pretty awful
Well we are now on 1hr 30mins – 40mins of debate on car parking charges with a motion by Knowles to have a 30min fee rejected but they did not tell us by how many. Still it was good to see Frosty disagreeing with Knowles even if he was right (did I just say that?) and she was wrong. Strangely in the whole 40minutes no mention was made of the fact that blue badge holders will now have to pay unless they are in receipt of benefits. I think they are just trying to stop Brian going to Godalming!
In the Awfulness arena of Awfulness that “debate” was Awful and yes th Monsters of the Black Latrine want to keep the disabled out of every car park in the borough including that nuisance Brian Egan of “Don’t Mention The Fraud” that the WW will keep on mentioning!
