The Picture story that made our hearts sing in 2016 here at the Waverley Web.

Sadly it wasn’t a Waverley resident – nor  even a Waverley Borough Councillor – though we are sure good deeds were done by many.  But here’s a man whose politics didn’t affect his judgement and service throughout a long and illustrious career as a Guildford Borough Councillor – the town’s very own Labour Man – Bill Bellerby.

Pictured here: Bill Bellerby former Mayor of Guildford  and freeman – and a  legend in his own lifetime – out selling poppies at the tender age of  99 in the bitter cold in Guildford High Street for Remembrance Sunday.

We salute you Councillor Bellerby – were that it was every councillor’s mission to serve the people who elected them as tirelessly and with as much conviction and honesty  as your good self achieved for 43 years and still doing so.

The couple pictured here dubbed – “Mr and Mrs Guildford” – after receiving their OBE’s for services to Guildford. Mrs Bellerby died aged 95 last March with her husband Bill by her side. The pair were married for 74 years and are both revered for their service to the people of Guildford.

We here at the Waverley Web – salute you and wish Mr Bellerby much good health and happiness in 2017.
