Gas supplies to approximately 650 properties in Bramley have been affected after water entered the gas network. Southern Gas Network engineers worked through the night to turn off gas supplies to affected properties and are continuing to visit the remaining properties to turn off supplies today.
They need to do this for safety reasons while they work to remove the water from the network.
Engineers are still working to identify the cause and locate exactly where the water has entered the network. There are now two sets of temporary traffic lights in place on the A281 through Bramley.
Rev’d Vicki Burrows has opened up the Parish room at Holy Trinity church where hot drinks and cake will be available throughout today. SGN also have representatives in the Parish room to answer any questions. They are also handing out fan heaters and electric hotplates to anyone affected. They can deliver these items to anyone who is unable to get to the village.
Bramley Infant School is closed today, but will reopen tomorrow. If the heating is not operational by then, the school has arranged for portable heaters to be available in the classrooms. Parents are asked to drop their children off at the Hall entrance.
At this time it is difficult to estimate exactly how long this work will take. You can keep informed of progress on the SGN website at https://www.sgn.co.uk/News/Incidents/2nd-Incident/.
If you have any concerns, or you are/know of a vulnerable customer requiring an electric heater or hotplate, you can pleasout contact the SGN 24-hour Customer Service team on 0800 917 1717.
Poor Bramley – Must be awful – I do hope they get it sorted soonest.
I heard on the grape vine that the British Gas canteen van which was giving out free food and hot drinks to the residents of Bramley who were affected by the break down has gone due to the fact that workers who did not live in Bramley but we’re working in the area had heard on County Sounds radio about it, we’re going there to get a free drink and food so the canteen van was sent away has anyone else heard this?
