The Poo thickens around and about two Cranleigh councillors!

According to the Cranleigh Civic Society since the Knowle Park Initiative planning application for 265 houses was thrown out last Wednesday by Waverley Borough Council Joint Planning Committee, Cranleigh’s sewage network has been the source of a great deal of attention.

Also up to their necks in Cranleigh poo are Councillors Stewart Stennett and Brian Ellis for declaring a pecuniary  interest in the KPI application thereby ruling themselves out of speaking  or voting. This left Councillor Mary Foryszewki the only Cranleigh member to speak up for the village.

Watch the the video here:

Straight from the horses mouth!

Calls to the WBC Monitoring Officer Robin Pellow have drawn a blank. He says if there is a complaint then “it will be investigated.”

Our inbox is  groaning with the weight of followers demanding to know what these councillors’ pecuniary interests are, and asking why they’re declaring  these pecuniary interests now?

This is of particular interest to those who know that, following Waverley Borough Council’s initial response to KPI’s first planning application – which was to refuse by officers under their  delegated powers – it was Councillor Ellis who called the application in. However, he missed the deadline, then  urged KPI to withdraw that application and resubmit it a month later so that, as the local Ward Councillor, he could call it in again, thus enabling the application to be debated by the Joint Planning Committee, thereby giving it a better chance of succeeding! Or so he thought …

So come on Councillors’ Ellis and Stennett, do tell us what those pecuniary interests are! And if you won’t we urge Cranleigh villagers to write to Robin Pellow here: and ask him to investigate. mailto:robin.pellow@waverley.gov.uk

In the meantime, if any of our followers want to hazard a guess, answers on an e-mail please. We promised to publish them – as long as they’re not libellous! If you want to read the Governments rules: Log onto www.gov.uk/dcig

In as nutshell: It is a criminal offence not to disclose pecuniary interests. One of these is the principal of integrity – that “holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work.” They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships.

Talking of poo – seems there’s lots of it about in Cranleigh? Residents on Hitherwood and Nightingales have provided  pictures of trucks  pumping out sewage almost day and night since last week. (there 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th April and 1, 2 May)

There has been a series of large tankers draining sewage out of a reported underground tank on Nightingales opposite Fortune Drive.Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 14.27.28.png

A neighbour was told by one of the workmen that they were doing this due to capacity problems at the Elmbridge Road sewage works. Could this be due to overloading from the 55 extra houses  at Swallowhurst, because the other 800 + houses on the green fields around Cranleigh and Alfold haven’t been built yet!

Another resident witnessed tankers (there were two there at once) sucking out sewage on Stovolds Hill most of the week too.

We have also had emails from residents in Bramley with their concerns about pollution they have witnessed in Cranleigh Waters, as well as reports of a distinct odour.

Lot of that about in Cranleigh too – in fact the stink is getting high all around!!

The CCS has  contacted   Environmental Health at Waverley Borough Council as the brook at the side of the Cranleigh Village Hospital site, soon to become the site for a new nursing private home? still has raw sewage entering it after 10 years, perhaps even longer ! No rush there then!

If you have any pictures or stories you want to share please email  mailto:info@cranleighsociety.org  as it needs to keep  a log of evidence on its  website.

Cranleigh’s sewage is at crisis point. If you are concerned email Anne Milton MP TODAY  mailto: anne.milton.mp@parliament.uk and let her know that Cranleigh has a sewage crisis and  needs her help!

  1. “Is that a lettuce I see protruding from your bottom, Councillor Ellis?”
” Yes, but it is just the Tip of the Iceberg.”
“That’s a very pecuniary interest, I must say!”
